Working securely in e-banking
In addition to technical measures in e-banking, your behaviour and the IT system you use, as well as the software and the electronic device are of crucial importance. By observing the following rules of conduct, you can do your part to ensure that we can achieve the highest possible level of security together.
Important rules of conduct
1. Keep your systems up to date
Operating systems and installed software (such as the Internet browser) may contain errors that affect the security of your e-banking access. For this reason, the producers of operating systems and web browsers offer so-called updates/patches to fix such security vulnerabilities. So please note the following points:
- Only use trustworthy devices (computers, notebooks, tablets, smartphones, etc.) with the current operating system and the latest security updates. Do not log in using third-party devices.
- Make sure you have a firewall installed and that it is enabled.
- Use an up-to-date, automatically updating antivirus program.
- The Internet browser used on both your computer and your mobile devices (smartphone, iPad, etc.) should always be the latest version. To do this, always activate the automatic update function. This gives you an additional security advantage!
- Caution: Older devices (especially smartphones) are often no longer supplied with security updates by the manufacturer and are therefore unprotected; so do not use such devices for e-banking.
- Only install programs or apps from known and trustworthy sources on your smartphone. Only use the official Apple and Google stores.
- Use the following web browsers, for example:
- Chrome
- Edge
- Safari
- Firefox
2. Install an antivirus program
An anti-virus program protects you against viruses, Trojans and malware that get into your computer or mobile device via the Internet, email, WhatsApp, Chat, SMS or via external data carriers (CD-ROM, DVD, USB stick, external hard drive). The antivirus software must always be up to date.
3. Activate a firewall
A firewall is a software. It monitors the data traffic running through the firewall and protects against dangers from the Internet. This could be malicious software (malware), for example. These include Viruses or spyware that infect or are smuggled into your computer in order to collect sensitive data, encrypt it or, in the worst-case scenario, send it to an unknown recipient. Note: A firewall only offers protection when it is activated.
4. Check the security certificate
Encrypting an Internet connection alone does not guarantee that you are communicating with the right server. An SSL certificate is used for bank zweiplus e-banking. When logging in, please check whether the SSL encryption symbol is visible in the address line of your web browser (usually a lock symbol). Depending on the browser used, you can view the certificate by clicking on the lock symbol. Cancel the registration process immediately or log out of e-banking if you receive security warnings about an invalid certificate.
5. Do not open any other Internet sites
Do not open any other Internet pages (“tabbed browsing”) or emails while using our e-banking site. We also recommend that you never use e-banking from a device that you do not know (e.g. not on a third-party PC in an Internet café).
Do not launch e-banking via links or search engine results but, rather, directly via our homepage, or ideally use the e-banking app that you install on your device.
6. Keep your login confidential
Access to e-banking at bank zweiplus is via the Internet using a mobile device (e.g. PC, mobile phone or tablet) via the Internet service provider and your browser software or an application on your device (the “Mobile Banking App”). To log into e-banking, always use Internet address www.bankzweiplus.ch, www.cash.ch, www.zurichinvest.ch or www.ebanking.axa.ch. Always enter the Internet address manually and do not use a link to log in to your e-banking. Do not search for the e-banking homepage using search engines such as Google, because search results can be manipulated.
We offer the highest possible security with our e-banking. Access to e-banking is therefore protected by four security levels via self-authentication, either via the Mobile Banking App or with a token (e.g. ActivCard) or SMS login (if offered). Access is granted to anyone who has authenticated him/herself by entering the following credentials (self-authentication):
Authentication with the mobile banking app using PushTAN:
- User identification number (User ID)
- Password (initial password)
- Individual method for unlocking the mobile device and
- Transaction authentication number (TAN) generated by the e-banking system and sent to the user's mobile device via PushTAN.
Authentication with a token (e.g. ActivCard):
- User identification number (User ID)
- Password (initial password)
- PIN code of the token and
- Token transaction number generated by the token every minute
Authentication via SMS login:
- User identification number (User ID)
- Password (initial password)
- Individual method for unlocking the mobile device and
- Transaction number (login) generated by the e-banking system and sent to the user's mobile device via SMS
In a first step, you must log in and identify yourself with your username (user identification number) and your personal password (initial password). After you have successfully passed this first login level with «Continue», you must enter an additional code as a second identification feature. You will receive this code either as a PushTAN, SMS or via your personal token (ActivCard).
Login information must always be treated confidentially and may under no circumstances be made accessible to third parties.
- Keep your login information (user identification, personal password, the smart device that receives the SMS mTAN and ActivCard) separately in a safe place and never leave them unattended.
- When you log in for the first time, you will be asked to change your password. Follow this request and change your password regularly afterwards.
- Never give your login information (user identification, personal password, SMS mTAN and ActivCard token) to third parties.
- Enhance security by not using e-banking on the same device that also receives the mTANs via SMS.
- Enhance security by using e-banking on a separate device that is not used for everyday internet usage.
- Increased caution is also required with the numerous public WLAN installations that now exist (e.g. free WLAN in hotels, at train stations, city WLANs).
7. Protect your password
The password - one of the three login information items - is the key to your personal data and an essential part of e-banking security. The password is a sequence of characters chosen by you and which is known only to you as the user and to the system.
8. Safe and secure handling of passwords
Passwords must always be treated confidentially and protected from third parties. Use a separate password for each system.
How to choose a suitable password:
- Choose at least 12 characters.
- Use a mixture of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.
- Avoid specific words in a known language or particulars (such as names and birthdays) about yourself or those around you. (Beware of social engineering and phishing messages in the form of emails and instant messages such as SMS or WhatsApp).
- You can check your password at www.passwortcheck.ch
- Change your password regularly.
- Don't write down your password. Do not save it unencrypted on your PC.
- Don't use the same password everywhere for convenience; this is a common mistake that can have serious consequences.
- Never disclose passwords to third parties, either in writing or verbally. Never upload your access data via digital channels.
- Do not respond to emails, instant messages, phone calls, or faxes that ask you to provide your personal information. Bank zweiplus employees will never contact you to ask for your personal passwords.
9. Prevent malicious «malware»
Malware (combined from the English terms MALicious and SoftWARE) are computer programs that perform harmful functions not desired by the user. Such programs usually run hidden in the background and are therefore only noticed by the user when the damage has already occurred. Malware comes in the form of viruses, worms, Trojan horses and spyware.
- Never open so-called spam e-mails and e-mails that you are not expecting and have been sent by people/organisations you do not know.
- Do not click on links in emails offering to connect you to your e-banking login page.
- You should also be careful with e-mail attachments. These may contain malicious software (viruses, spyware, Trojans) that infiltrate your computer unnoticed. Delete such e-mails immediately and then empty your email trash.
If you notice any irregularities or unusual processes while using e-banking, please contact our Service Line immediately on the toll-free number 00800 0077 7700.
10. End your e-banking session correctly
To make sure your e-banking session on our server really has ended, you should always exit using the "Log out" function.
11. Empty the browser cache and close the Internet browser
Delete the cache (“browser cache” or temporary internet files) of your internet browser after each e-banking session. As the final step to end your e-banking session correctly and securely, close the Internet browser.
